3D Printing Addiction

I’ve taken a step back from woodworking and metalworking. During this time it’s either too hot or too cold. Yes, I know, I need to man up.

I’m back indoors and have been doing computer repairs and services for neighbors and clients.

Recently, I acquired a 3D printer from my neighbor who was moving and didn’t have any room for it.

It was an older one, but I appreciate the fact he gave me the printer and 3 spools of filament to play around with.

I’ve had loads of fun printing stuff I need around the shop. I’ve even designed a couple of parts for our vehicles.

About a week ago I pulled the trigger and ordered a Bambu Lab X1 Carbon 3D printer. For those who don’t know, this is the fancy version that does everything for you. I printed out what is called a benchy boat. I was amazed at how fast it printed this intricate toy.

With the edition of a new tool I had to get some more stuff.

I got an adjustable height desk for the computer repair and a tool chest. Both are super nice and heavy-duty. Would you believe the Seville Classic HD Tool Chest only costs $119.99? Sam’s Club of all places. I looked all around and it was twice the price for something that wasn’t the same quality as this. It even came with the drawer liners! I put some adjustable casters with stabilizer pads. The thing is solid!

I’ve also been dabbling with Gridfinity and I find it very useful. Just need to find something to go in the bottom left corner and buy more gray filament!

The XYZ DaVinci Pro 1.0 that my neighbor gave me was a good start to learning how to troubleshoot problems and do repairs. It gives an appreciation for the stuff they have out now. This new printer prints 3 times faster! And the prints are high quality.

Right away I printed out some useful stuff. I printed utility knives for my family when I went on vacation recently. I also printed out this spool holder for the back of the older machine. As well as a side fan for PLA filament. A company is sending out some stuff for me to review. They are called Buildtak. So keep a look out for that episode.

Here is some stuff I printed with the X1 Carbon. I’m mostly printing out very useful stuff for when I’m repairing things and organizing. I’ve also 3D printed upgrades to the X1 Carbon. It’s amazing what you can print out to enhance the machine and make it more efficient.

I’m designing new stuff and plan to sale it on Etsy, Marketplace, and eBay.

One of the items I came up with was a customized soldering base that holds tips, flux paste, and the soldering iron and has a piece of 23 gauge sheet metal attached to it with magnets. See the photo below.

In this new venture I’ve ordered a ton of stuff. Not only did I get the nice Seville Classic tool chest, but a bunch of supplies and things necessary to start 3D printing properly.
